Adjoining the town hall, a technical college opened in 1901 with 374 students. It wasn't all STEM subjects: the organizer of the Syndicate of Seven was George McCulloch, who eventually retired and returned to the UK. From his Queens Gate mansion he endowed an Art Gallery established in this building in 1904.
