Notes on the Geography of Sri Lanka: Colombo: Photo 50

world pictures Sri Lanka: Colombo

In addition to all these buildings--churches, government buildings, hotels, shops, and homes--Colombo was a major financial center, with many international organizations present in the few blocks around the city's famous clocktower-cum-lighthouse.  Alas, taking pictures here has been difficult or impossible in recent years.  Note the security barriers, there to protect the president's residence, known as Queen's House. We're in the heart of the old fort, though the walls no longer exist.
