Introduction to Vietnam The pictures in the following chapters were taken during a brief  trip to Vietnam early in 2009.   The itinerary was dead simple: Hanoi, Hue, and HCMC (the ugly but standard shorthand for Ho Chi Minh City).  A sidetrip from Hue to Hoi An was inescapable, but a sidetrip from HCMC to Cantho, at the center of the Mekong Delta, seemed even more essential, if only to discover that this is no longer your grandmother's Mekong Delta.
